The Montshire Celebrates a Day for Science with Free Admission

On Saturday, March 16, the Montshire Museum of Science will host a Day for Science, a special day that is free and open to all members of the community. Enjoy a day packed with hands-on science activities for all ages and celebrate the importance of science.

  • Create a space craft for exploring the universe, learn about the landscapes of other planets, and witness a historic moment in space exploration at the exhibition Destination: Space!
  • Play a tune on a see-through piano, find out how an accordion works, rock out with friends, and make your own instruments at the exhibition Making Music: The Science of Musical Instruments.
  • Weigh a moose antler, identify plants and animals through clues, and check out a variety of reptiles and birds’ eggs at Discovering the Natural World.
  • Put your problem-solving skills to the test at Solve It! or create a bubble bigger than your head at Bubbles: Science in Soap.

This year’s Day for Science will be in memory of Bob Raiselis (March 18, 1954–December 30, 2018). As the Director of Exhibits for 8 years and a part of the Montshire team for over 24, Raiselis brought kindness and quiet humor to his work, along with a passion for art, science, and music. Millions of Montshire visitors have benefited from Raiselis’ creativity, design skills, and expertise—and exploring the many exhibits he’s worked on through his career is a fantastic way to remember his legacy.

A gathering to memorialize Bob Raiselis will be held in the Montshire’s Porter Community Room from 11am to 1pm. Friends and family are welcome to remember Bob. All the exhibit galleries will be open throughout the day. Check the Montshire’s website for the day’s programs and events.
