Education Opportunities
Seasonal Education Staff are part of the team responsible for fulfilling the programming needs of visitors and campers in our indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces.
Science Education interns can be involved in all aspects of the department’s work - including working with our visitors on weekends, teaching at the Museum and in outreach programs, and being involved in program planning and development.
Summer Camp Counselors
The Montshire Museum of Science is renowned throughout the region for its summer camp experience. We are currently seeking our next cohort of Camp Counselors to help develop and lead camp programs for the 2024 season. Montshire counselors will participate in pre-camp orientation and training, and throughout the summer provide daily check-ins for campers and support throughout the day.
Hourly position at $16.50 per hour, non-benefited.
EMPLOYMENT TERM
June 17, 2024 through August 16, 2024
- Daily hours: M-F, 8am–4 pm (regular), or 9am–5pm (after-care)
- Staff meeting Wed., 4-5 pm
Summer Explainers
Explainers support our visitors at the Museum and fulfill the Museum’s visitor programming needs in our indoor and outdoor exhibit spaces. Explainers work throughout the Museum with visitors, leading hands-on science activities, performing daily exhibit maintenance and upkeep, greeting and managing visiting groups, and helping visitors with exhibit use and other needs. Among the few positions at the Museum that interact directly with every visitor, Explainers are critical team members of the Museum’s team.
Hourly position at $16.00 per hour, non-benefited.
EMPLOYMENT TERM
Mid-June through Labor Day; 20 to 37.5 hr/wk
- Schedule based on two-week rotation, includes weekend work.
- Daily hours: 8:45 am–5:15 pm.
- Occasional early morning and evening responsibilities.
Education Internship
Education interns can be involved in all aspects of the department’s work - including working with our visitors on weekends, teaching at the Museum and in outreach programs, and being involved in program planning and development. Interns have the opportunity to further develop their teaching skills, with a special emphasis on developing and teaching inquiry-based science programs. Each Education intern is also given the opportunity to complete a project of relevance to the Museum. Successful candidates will have an interest in informal science education, experience working with children and families, and a strong background in science.
Time requirement: 12 weeks, 37.5 hours per week (part time positions may be arranged)
Stipend: up to $2,000 (will be adjusted for shorter internships), not benefited.
Occurs: April to mid-June, Mid-June to early September (dates may vary based on intern’s availability)
Visitor Services Opportunities
Seasonal Visitor Service Staff are part of the team responsible for greeting and orienting visitors; selling admissions, memberships, and merchandise from the Museum store.
Seasonal Visitor Services Associate
The Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont seeks enthusiastic and engaging individuals with interest in customer service to join our vibrant Visitor Services team as a seasonal Visitor Service Associate.
Seasonal Visitor Service Associates support the Montshire during its busiest time of year. They are part of the team responsible for greeting and orienting visitors; selling admissions, memberships, and merchandise from the museum store; providing general support for museum operations, and ensuring visitors enjoy their time on the Montshire property.
Hourly position at $16.00 per hour, non-benefited
EMPLOYMENT TERM
May-September (flexible start and end dates)
- Museum is open 7 days per week, 10am-5pm
- Flexible schedule including holidays, weekends & occasional evening shifts are required
- Shifts will vary from week to week
