For thirty years Bill Noble has worked as a garden designer and preservationist. As Director of Preservation for the Garden Conservancy he was instrumental in the preservation and restoration of dozens of gardens throughout the United States. Bill began his career working in the gardens of the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and other artists in the Cornish, New Hampshire Artists’ Colony. He then went on to become the first landscape director at The Fells, on Lake Sunapee.
His Norwich, Vermont garden is included in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archive of American Gardens and has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, House & Garden Magazine, The New York Times and the Garden Conservancy’s book, Outstanding American Gardens. He has now written and photographed Spirit of Place: The Making of a New England Garden, chronicling the making of his gardens.
