Follow your interest while learning something new at the Montshire this summer!

Creative Coding with Spheros

This is your chance to experiment with servos, motors and LEDs and use code to control their movements and actions. You’ll work with a partner to create a unique project with sensors that respond to sound and motion using the Hummingbird, an easy-to-use Arduino microcontroller.  Whether you are a complete newbie or have messed around with Scratch and other programming languages, you’ll learn new things and have fun doing it!

Fee: Members: $190, non-members: $220

Time: 9 a.m.–noon

June 25-29 Session CC1: grades 5-6

Exploring Nature Through Art

Scientists frequently use photography, video, drawing, and even sculpture to help them explore and explain the natural world. In this program we’ll use a variety of techniques to observe and record natural phenomena and processes. From digital photography to pen and ink drawing, we will explore how art can improve our scientific understanding, and science can be used to create art.

Fee: Members: $200, non-members: $230

Time:  1–4 p.m.

July 9-13 Session EN3: Grades 6–8

Montshire Maker Camp

Let your creativity and imagination take flight as we take on some cool and innovative projects that jiggle, buzz, and light up. Build a tiny robot, light up a squishy toy, or create a piece of wearable electronic art. You’ll finish the week with a number of projects that you can continue tinkering with and improving. We’ll use LEDs, the latest conductive materials, motors and more while learning about electrical circuitry. Depending on your project direction, you’ll learn how to use a sewing machine, soldering iron, or both!

A supervised lunch hour will be provided for students who are signed up for both Montshire Maker Camp and Exploring Nature Through Art.

Fee: Members: $210, non-members: $240

Time:  9 a.m.–12 p.m.

July 9-13 Session MM3: Grades 6-8
