Nature Detectives

Campers enjoy outdoor fun that weaves together hands-on exploration, stories, games, water play, and reflective time in their “Magic Spot.”

We’ll look at insects up close, compare plants and seeds, and become better observers of the world around us. Campers will emerge with new friendships, amazing discoveries, and a deeper respect for nature and the outdoors. Each day will focus on the remarkable ecology of our local world. This year, in conjunction with the Montshire’s Summer of Dinosaurs, we’ll even spend a day looking for clues of prehistoric life from the past. From our special camp site in the woods, we’ll explore, play, and learn all day long!

This program is offered at two convenient sites:

  • Montshire Museum in Norwich, Vermont
  • Crossroads Academy in Lyme, New Hampshire

Children may sign up for one session of Nature Detectives.

Experiment!

If you like to ask questions, explore, and figure out just how things work, then this is the camp for you!

Each day we will examine a different physical science concept and build our understanding through experiments and projects. Each day includes a balanced mix of project time, outdoor explorations, games, and water play.

Water Worlds

Wade into ponds, streams and vernal pools to explore aquatic worlds and the life found there.

Each day, explore a different aquatic habitat and learn about the animals and plants that make the area home. We’ll make careful observations using our senses and tools, such as magnifiers and microscopes. In addition, each day will include swim time, games, and the chance to make new friends. Grab a net and join us!

This program is offered at the Hanover Site, at the Colonial House behind the Ray School, with swimming at Storrs Pond.
