Engineering with the Sun!

This series of activities uses the heat energy from the Sun to make things melt. Test how different items melt on a hot day and challenge yourself to design a cooker for a tasty treat or design a structure to keep an ice cube from melting on a hot day. Put on your inventor and engineering hats to design, build, test, rebuild and test again until you come up with a fantastic solution.

Save an Ice Cube: An Engineering Challenge

Sometimes it is important to figure out how to keep things cool on a hot day.

In this experiment and engineering challenge you are going to design a way to keep an ice cube from melting.

Design a Solar Cooker

In this engineering activity, you will need to design a solar oven that gets hot enough to melt marshmallows and chocolate for s’mores.
