Museum Rental Information

The Montshire is the perfect venue for celebrations, receptions, corporate events, meetings, and parties.

The Montshire offers a variety of rental spaces to meet your needs, with options that can accommodate up to 350 guests. All rentals include use of the 2,200-square-foot Porter Community Room and the use of:

  • 150 chairs
  • Seated dining capacity for 110 guests.
  • Theater-style seating for 150
  • Tables:
    Ten rectangular tables measuring 8' x 2.5'
    Ten round tables measuring 4'
    Five round tables measuring 5'
    Four 32" round high top tables
  • Dropdown screen
  • Kitchen for prepping and serving food 
  • Lighted parking for 225 cars

Please note: Linens, table cloths, and audio visual services are NOT provided.

Set up in the Porter Community Room and Hughes Pavilion may begin at 4pm and guests may arrive as early as 5:30pm. The standard rental period ends at 10pm for Rental Option #1, #2 and #3, but may be extended on an hourly basis.

If you're interested in adding a truly extraordinary experience to your event, we offer staff-led, science-based activities, set-up and clean up service and the ability to move certain exhibits. Our special events coordinator can assist you with the rental process and necessary details to best suit your needs.


Option 1    Museum Building Rental

Includes exclusive access to the Museum galleries and indoor exhibits, (including visiting exhibitions), and the 2,200-square foot Porter Community Room. 

Option 1 Availability and prices  

Daily, 5:30 –10pm
September–May:  $1375, $325/hr each additional hour after 10pm
June–August:  $1475, $375/hr each additional hour after 10pm
Include the Outdoor Patio for an additional $175


Option 2    Museum Building and Outdoor Spaces Rental

Includes indoor exhibit galleries, Porter Community Room, David Goudy Science Park & Hughes Pavilion

Additional Amenities

  • Ten six-foot picnic tables in the Pavilion
  • Additional outdoor restroom facilities 

Option 2 Availability and prices  

Daily, 5:30 –10pm
Mid-May–September    $2225, $490/hr each additional hour after 10pm


Option 3    Porter Community Room (Evening Events)

Use of the Community Room does not include access to the Museum galleries or outdoor spaces. 

Option 3 Availability and prices    

Daily, 5:30 –10pm
September–May     $425, $115/hr each additional hour after 10pm
June–August    $500, $150/hr each additional hour after 10pm


Option 4    Porter Community Room (Daytime Meetings)

Use of the Community Room does not include access to the Museum galleries or outdoor spaces. Daytime meetings may only include up to 60 people with limited floor plan options.

Option 4 Availability and prices    

Monday–Friday, 8:30 – 10:30am or 1:30 – 3:30pm
September–April   $250 


Montshire Corporate Associate (MCA) members receive a 15% discount on Options #1 & #2, and a 10% discount on Options #3 & #4. 
Supporting Members of the Museum receive a 5% discount on all rentals.

Additional Options

Services available for an additional fee include:

  • Educational demonstrations and activities led by our professional staff
  • Setting up Museum chairs and tables, rearranging picnic tables in the Hughes Pavilion (for Option #2)
  • Moving interior exhibits (this service depends upon gallery installations)
  • Clean-up
