ViewSpace: Showing Now at the Montshire

NORWICH, VT. — While most of planet earth has been investigated and mapped by generations of explorers, the frontiers of outer space still provide fertile ground for discovery. Images from spacecraft like the Hubble Space Telescope enhance our understanding of the universe every day. Now you can get in touch with these very latest discoveries in astronomy through ViewSpace, a multimedia program projected on the Montshire's “big screen.”

ViewSpace is an internet-fed, permanent exhibit developed by the Space Telescope Science Institute, home of NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Images are enhanced by interpretative text, updated daily, and delivered at a meditative pace, leaving time to consider meaning and deepen your understanding of astronomy. Surrounded by beautiful, evocative music, you'll be captivated by images from the universe, fascinated by the technology of spacecraft, drawn into the science behind space missions, and enlightened on what you see in the night sky. We invite you to come experience ViewSpace. Watch for a few minutes or for an extended period. The programming includes:

Celestial Tours and Updates. Visual explorations and news from the frontiers of astronomy.

EarthWatch. Images and interpretations of Earth as seen from space.

Hubble Updates. The latest images and discoveries from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Astronomy Picture of the Day.

Mars Exploration Rover Updates. Status updates on the Mars Exploration Rovers as they explore Mars.

Cassini-Huygens Updates. Reports from the Saturn orbiter and Titan lander.

Skylines. Beautifully illustrated introduction to the night sky: constellations, planets, deep sky objects, and special astronomical events.

Radio Astronomy Update. The latest images and discoveries from the largest telescopes in the world.

PlanetQuest Update. New discoveries about extra-solar planets and their environs.

ViewSpace is shown continually in the Montshire theater from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The presentations are free with Museum admission.
