Crankin’ Rhythm

Create and investigate rhythmic compositions

Create your own rhythmic compositions by setting plugs into the holes in the edges of disks connected to an electronic rhythm machine. As the disks turn, the plugs trigger drum sounds, and whether a hole is plugged or not determines what the rhythm will be. Rhythms as simple as that of a waltz and as complex as that of a rhumba can be created and investigated. This exhibit was developed as part of the Montshire's Science in the Stacks collaboration project.
