Museum Internships

The 15 week, full-time internship program is held during all seasons of the year. Part-time internships may be available to meet the needs of an individual intern. Training begins with an orientation to all phases of the Museum's operations. Interns gradually assume responsibilities during this period and by the second week are an integral part of the Museum staff. In addition to these responsibilities, each intern is involved in a major or several minor projects to be completed by the end of the internship. Interns will be able to confer regularly with staff members concerning their progress. At the end of the program each intern will receive an evaluation which may be used as a reference when applying for professional positions. Internship options include:

  • Exhibit Design & Fabrication

  • Membership and Development

  • Public Relations

  • Science Education

An Internship application in .pdf format can be downloaded and printed, or it can be obtained by contacting the Museum by email at montshire@montshire.org.

Prerequisites include an interest in science and a desire to work with people. Priority will be given to those interested in working in the field after the program. Familiarity with natural and physical science, communications and education are useful.

Housing with a local family may be available, although not guaranteed. A stipend of $1000 is intended to help offset food and gas expenses.

We have a separate page of information on Internship Options.

For additional information on any program and for application materials, call Montshire at 802-649-2200, or send e-mail to montshire@montshire.org.
